Infrared Carbon Heater Lamp: Packing Serious Heat into a Small Space
We built this infrared carbon heater lamp for engineers who need intense, focused heat—without taking up a ton of room. It’s a shortwave halogen infrared lamp, designed for industrial jobs where speed and steady output are non-negotiable.
Power, Voltage, and Size: The Practical Details
This thing runs on 400V and delivers 2500W of heating power. That combo gives you serious heat density from a 300mm quartz tube—about 12 inches. The short length keeps the heat zone tight, so you can slip it into tight machine frames without having to redesign the whole setup. Now, a 2500W load on 400V pulls some current. So plan your wiring, contactors, and fusing accordingly. And don’t forget airflow or heat shielding. If you run it in a sealed box with no cooling, you’ll be shortening its life—fast.
Inside the Build: Halogen, Quartz, Coating, and Connections
Inside the quartz tube, the halogen cycle keeps the filament stable. That means more consistent output over time and far fewer surprise burnouts than you get with standard infrared tubes. The quartz itself transmits shortwave infrared efficiently, so you get rapid heat-up and an instant response when the machine needs heat. The tube has a coating, but it’s not for looks. It helps manage heat loss, stabilize surface temperature, and cut down on hot spots that can crack the quartz. For connections, it uses an R7s base—an industrial standard that gives solid contact and makes this lamp a straightforward drop-in replacement in many heating fixtures. If your machine uses something different, like Sk15, just swap the socket. Easy.
Where It Shines: Real-World Applications
This setup is made for process heating: PET bottle blowing, plastic welding, adhesive curing, and coating drying. The shortwave infrared penetrates fast, and the compact 300mm size keeps your machine footprint small. We built it to hold up under heavy cycling, but it still needs proper thermal management. Spec it right, wire it right, and cool it right—and you get predictable heat with minimal downtime.
