Make sure they can actually handle the current draw. If they can’t, you’re just asking for your terminals to burn out, and nobody wants to deal with that mid-shift. Why carbon fiber? Ever notice how some heaters have “cold spots”? Carbon fiber helps fix that. It spreads the heat much more evenly across the whole tube compared to tungsten. The quartz glass does the heavy lifting here. It keeps the filament from oxidizing and doesn’t freak out when you cycle the heat on and off rapidly. Plus, the glass is so clear that the infrared radiation passes right through it instead of getting trapped. Getting them to work for you These are pretty easy to swap into most medium-wave IR systems. They’re a natural fit for drying, curing, or pre-heating. But, there are a few things you need to watch out for. The quartz is tough against heat, but it’s fragile. If you drop it or get oil from your fingerprints on the glass, you’ll get a “hot spot.” That’s a fast track to a broken tube.**Do yourself a favor: wear lint-free gloves when you’re installing them.**Keep that glass spotless. And one last thing. If you’re stuffing these into a tight enclosure and running them at full blast, make sure your cooling fans are up to the task. You don’t want the ambient heat building up so much that your sockets start to melt.
